TRIZ is abbreviation of the Russian words, which mean “Theory of Inventive Problem Solving”. It was created by Genrich Altshuller of past Soviet Union. Altshuller studied nearly 200,000 patents, and made summary of these patents’ similarity, repeatability and creative thinking logic. He then found out that all kinds of different researches and studies were based on the theory that an“invention is produced by human intelligences”, so innovation could be improved by Psychological techniques. Genrich Altshuller worked out the research results by documentation classification, and generalization of innovation knowledge. After they were published, many people with the same enthusiasm joined the study, and the number of reviewed patents gradually grew up to more than 1,000,000. Knowledge extracted from these patents documented and further refined with Altshuller’s methods, making TRIZ to be recognized as effectively“innovative ”methods by many companies and institutions.

Samsung form South Korea extended the TRIZ application to the whole company, aiming at helping to solve the problem of time-wasting, slow speed and low success during R&D process. After that Samsung attained numerous patents by speed-up innovation, followed by incredible financial benefits. In recent years, many famous global companies and research institutions have applied TRIZ into their R&D operation, like Intel, Motorola, NASA, Boeing, Lucent Technology, HP, GE,MIT, Xerox, Honeywell, Samsung, Posco. In their eyes, TRIZ is quite crucial for improving company’s competitive power.

TRIZ has been identified by many scholars and specialists within this field to be the most systematized innovation methods, which is applied to: Engineering, Management, Education, Medical Science, Finance, Customer Service, Quality Management, Future Technology and Commercial Opportunity Identification.
